The Kremmling Library is Pleased to Present… the “Parent/Educator Resource Center”

“Where are the Little League forms?” was a question heard often at the Kremmling Library last week.  Why, one might ask? Because the Kremmling Library staff has made it their goal in a recent and ongoing project to become a one-stop shop for those looking for “kid friendly” activities happening in the community.

The binder, called “What’s Up in Kremmling for Kids”, contains information about such goings-on as baseball, soccer, hockey, dance, 4-H, and school events and will be updated constantly throughout the year.

Wonderful!, one might say, but where is this useful binder located?  Walk back to the children’s area and customers will see the binder prominently displayed on top of a new bookshelf in the back, a project the Kremmling Library staff calls the “Parent/Educator Resource Center”. In the resource center, customers will also find books, DVD’s, CD’s, and audiobooks pertaining to kids of all ages – information on topics such as pregnancy, parenting tips, baby sign language, travel, ideas for play, health issues, homeschooling, education and homework tips, and colleges and scholarships.

Two other binders are being planned as well. One will contain all sorts of best book and internet resource lists for parents and educators. Customers will also be encouraged to add their own thoughts and suggestions to these lists. The other binder will contain pathfinders for various subjects that children might be studying or working on for school or for fun, such as the Titanic or dinosaurs. Kremmling Library staff will do the research for the customers, showing some of the best resources found in the Kremmling Library and the wider library system, in addition to giving tips on how best to search the catalog to find more.

So, why a parent/educator resource center? First of all, the Kremmling Library staff thought it would be fitting for all information in the library concerning children to be in one place. Secondly, the bookshelf is located in the children’s area for more convenient browsing for parents while the kids are hanging out in the library. Finally, the Kremmling Library staff has committed itself to providing the best information for parents and educators that it can. Suggestions and comments are always welcome!
